Havana Nights

Virginia Beach

“I loved designing this vintage space at Havanna Nights! Designed spaces included a dining room, jazz bar, cigar lounge, and bathrooms.”

- Carol Eubank

  • My goal was to design a space that transports the guests to a night in Old Havana in the 1940s.

  • The space is resplendent with the Salsa colors of Central America from the glittery glass tiles, copper leather on the bar stools, and copper woven wall covering. The highly polished Coco Bolo wood of the soffit adds sparkle and energy. Tiny recessed lighting in the soffit, under-counter LED tube lighting, and LED pin lights in the granite floor add another dimension. The floor lights area are also a safety feature.

I used a combination of Tan Brown granite for the bar tops and flooring, which is set in a curvilinear design, and Cambria Minera (GRAY TONES with small flecks of reflective mirror).

The Jazz Bar is a palette of turquoise and copper with sparkling finishes everywhere you look — from the copper music note light fixtures mounted on the mirrors to the shimmery leathers on the chairs to the chrome trim on the banquette legs. The banquette design is a whimsical interpretation of a wing chair that creates a cozy space for listening to the hottest jazz musicians.

  • I designed the Men’s Restroom with walls covered entirely slate clad with multicolored vertical strips on the side walls. An illuminated sink is set into the slate countertop.

The Women’s Restroom is highlighted with a multidimensional wall treatment of palms, cut from three layers of luan, carved, applied to the wall, and painted. An illuminated sink and illuminated makeup mirror make this not only a beautiful Women’s room but a very functional one as well!

The Entry Foyer has a stone floor, hand-painted wood doors, and beautiful drum light fixtures combining bronze metal work and linen shades. The ceiling medallion above gives additional presence to the lighting. The space is finished off with an antique work table which I converted into a hostess stand.

  • When you walk into the club inspired by the travels of Ernest Hemingway, you are transported to a Gentleman’s Club in Old Havana.

    Some notable design details:

    • An antique map of the Caribbean on the walls creates a backdrop for a cozy club complete with lots of comfortable leather seating, spacious lounge chairs, and ottomans.

    • An entire wall of temperature-controlled humidors contain members’ cigars with the wall above the humidors paneled with leather straps and oversized brass tacks.

    • For the jazz lovers, the center television by Bang and Olufsen can also provided a live feed to the Jazz Bar entertainment on the lower level.

    • A beautiful gold mottled tin ceiling completes this warm environment. Because the ceiling was concrete, we found a creative solution by gluing the tiles directly. Wall sconces and table lamps provide additional illumination.

    • The custom banquette was designed to look like a piece of furniture with brass tacks and furniture-style legs.

    • One of the coolest features? Hidden doors that access storage space.

    • A complete bar is on the opposite side of the room and a dumb waiter accesses a full menu from the kitchen on the lower level!
